The Venue
Home of Australia's oldest theatre company, the Melbourne Theatre Company, the Southbank Theatre opened in 2009. The theatre contains two performance spaces, bars, function rooms, foyers and extensive backstage facilities. The perfomance spaces include the state-of-the-art, 500-seat Sumner venue offering the most advanced stage technology and a level of intimacy not previously seen in Australia and the 150 seat intimate and experimental space, The Lawler.
Our Scope
As the voice of the client, Setting Line Principal, Craig Gamble was responsible for all design review, client advice and technical and operational communication, direction to the design and build team of this world class venue.
Designed to support the company’s artistic drive and technical production needs, this venue has been a phenomenal success for productions and audiences. Significant innovations in this project have impacted many venue builds and redevelopments including: modular stage flooring, ultra thin proscenium build, use of Star 10's for theatre work and
